Storing Wine for the Short Term at Home without a Climate Controlled Environment Mon, Aug 15, 22 Storing Wine for the Short Term at Home without a Climate Controlled Environment Here at the Wine ConneXtion we have many customers who visit us once every 4 to 8 weeks and they’ll buy several cases at a time. So how should you be storing several cases of wine you will be drinking over the next 1 to 2 months? Well the ideal conditions for storing wine is at 55 degrees Fahrenheit with 70% humidity and most of us don’t have these conditions in our home so let’s talk about where we shouldn’t store wine. Areas such as sunrooms, garages, mud rooms with heaters are not places to store wine. Fluctuations in temperatures will degrade the wine quickly and in some cases make the wine go bad. Keep the wine away from heat generating machines such as the top of refrigerators, radiators or next to boilers. Store your wine in a dark place where the temperature does not fluctuate. Basements are a great spot, but for those who live in an apartment or a home with no basement we suggest putting the wine in a closet that gets little use.
